Makeup Ideas for Darker Skin

Apply a cream or liquid foundation to the skin. The color will vary depending on the exact shade of skin and should match the neck rather than the face. Choose a foundation that also matches any undertones in the skin, such as a warm undertone that is highlighted in the skin.
Dust baby powder onto the foundation lightly. While baby powder is not an actual color, it helps the foundation set without ruining the color. Always use a light dusting of baby powder to set the liquid foundation and brush off any excess.
Be subtle with highlighter on the eyes or cheeks. Highlighting an area can make your features pop but because dark skin showcases highlighting products so prominently, it can be easy to go overboard. Use a very finely milled eye shadow in a shimmery tone like soft silver or champagne to highlight the brow bone. For the highest plane of the cheeks, use a highlighter in a cream or liquid form. Gently dot the product on the highest point of your cheeks and blend it outward with your fingers.
Apply a lipstick with a matte finish. Choose one in a shade of brown, burgundy, berry or plum. You can also use soft pink, gold or beige. Stay away from lipsticks with a frost finish and red or pink shades. You can choose to add foundation to your lips to even them out with the rest of your skin.
